The note-taking application Google Keep is getting a fresh breeze in the form of a major update. Google is gradually rolling out a redesigned look based on the latest Material 3 Expressive design language, which will give the application a more modern feel. The changes were spotted by the editorial team of Android Authority in version 5.25.252.00.90, but are not yet widely available to everyone.

What’s changing?

From the home screen, the most visible change at first glance is the redesigned search bar, which is now slightly taller but narrower than before. The account switching buttons and hamburger menu have disappeared from the search field, contributing to a cleaner look. The text inside the bar has also changed and now displays “Search Keep instead of the previous “Search your notes”. The search filters have also been adjusted, receiving a new, more rounded shape.

The toolbar has undergone a similar transformation and now boasts larger icons with a rounded background, contributing to a more unified visual impression. The same approach has been applied to the editing buttons at the top of the screen, which have also gained a rounded background. Image previews in notes have received side margins and rounded corners, which better corresponds with the overall design direction.

Part of Google’s larger design strategy

Although the changes may seem minimal, together they give the Google Keep application a more modern look that better aligns with the new Android design language. Google is gradually updating all its applications in a similar way. Gmail, Phone, Wallet, and even Clock will also receive updates.

The Material 3 Expressive redesign is expected to roll out to more users in the coming days and gradually affect the rest of the applications in Google’s portfolio.

What do you think of the new Google Keep look?
