It was precisely in the case of the latter pair that **speculation about a breakup** recently arose, but as it now seems, many people’s fears were unfounded.

Only wild speculation?

Based on rumors from the Chinese microblogging platform Weibo, some foreign media published a report about the alleged termination of cooperation between Xiaomi and Leica. The idea was that the Chinese smartphone manufacturer would start **using its own solutions** instead of those from the legendary German company, whose tradition dates back to the 19th century.

However, as the Chinese newspaper ITHome now reports, Xiaomi’s PR General Manager Wang Hua commented on the rumors on Weibo, **calling all rumors about the end of the partnership nonsense**. He also recalled a case from 2023 when similarly wild claims appeared before the release of the Xiaomi 14 series. Even then, the cooperation did not break down, and the flagship phones arrived on the market with Leica lenses.

Cooperation seemingly deepening

On the contrary, the cooperation between Xiaomi and Leica **seems to be getting more serious**. Otherwise, we couldn’t explain why Xiaomi would add Leica shutter sound effects, which are offered by newer models, to older smartphones. Moreover, the design of the optional watermark in photos is constantly changing.

We can therefore assume that upcoming smartphones like the Xiaomi 15T or Xiaomi 16 will also come with camera systems developed in cooperation with Leica. However, in the future, **it cannot be ruled out that Xiaomi will decide to take another step towards maximum independence from external suppliers**, similar to what it did with the XRING O1 chipset.
