Samsung is preparing a new feature that could please all Galaxy phone owners who like to use their smartphone behind the wheel. According to information that appeared on the social network X, the Korean manufacturer is working on the Auto DeX system, which has the ambition to replace traditional Android Auto and offer several significant additional advantages. The biggest one is the possibility to use the system directly on the phone display, which Google unfortunately discontinued for its application several years ago.

Known leaker revealed details of the new feature

Information about the upcoming novelty was first published by a user with the nickname @GalaxyTechie, who presents himself on social networks as a One UI enthusiast. Thanks to him, we can see the first screenshots of the Auto DeX interface. According to his findings, it is a combination of the already existing Samsung Auto service (available primarily in China) and the well-known DeX mode, which allows transforming a phone into a computer.

At first glance, the user interface resembles Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. We find a central panel with a map, to which music controls and widgets are added on the right side. On the left side is a vertical panel with application icons, time, and a link to other programs.

Interesting fact: two navigation panels at once

Interesting is the presence of two navigation panels at once – one for the Auto environment and one for DeX. According to new information from the thread published by @GalaxyTechie on July 13, the bottom DeX panel can be hidden if needed. This arrangement supports his claim that it is not a completely new product, but rather a fusion of two existing Samsung solutions.

From other screenshots, it is clear that users will have the option to customize the environment – selecting a light or dark theme, changing the wallpaper, or setting widgets on the main panel. Furthermore, the interface dynamically adjusts the background color of applications according to the selected wallpaper, which is one of the typical elements of the One UI design language.

Auto DeX for all cars

According to the leaker’s information, Auto DeX is expected to support over 8,500 car models from more than a hundred brands. This would mean very broad coverage across the automotive market. Much more important, however, is the mention that the system will reportedly be usable even in unsupported cars, or even without a car.

This feature could particularly please users who miss the „Android Auto for phones” application, which Google discontinued several years ago. While Google left users of older cars or simpler car radios out in the cold, Samsung will apparently offer them an alternative that could work even on a standalone phone display.

A number of unresolved questions

Many questions remain regarding the Auto DeX feature. We don’t know exactly when it will be launched, which Galaxy phone models will support it, and how third-party application support will work. It will be particularly crucial whether Samsung will be able to ensure compatibility with popular navigation and streaming services.

Will you welcome an alternative to Android Auto?

Samsung’s initiative comes at a time when competition in the field of automotive interfaces is intensifying. Google recently introduced Android Auto with extended support for third-party applications, while Apple has modernized CarPlay with advanced features. With this step, Samsung signals that it wants to offer its own solution that will be closely integrated with the Galaxy ecosystem.

As soon as we have more information about the upcoming Auto DeX feature, we will, of course, inform you. For now, we can only speculate whether Samsung is preparing a revolution in connecting phones and cars, or just another alternative to existing solutions.

What do you think about Samsung’s competition to Android Auto?
