The Chinese company Honor has unveiled a new foldable smartphone Magic V5 in its homeland, pushing the boundaries of thin and light devices of this type. The new device is presented as the thinnest and lightest foldable phone in the world with a thickness of just 8.8 mm when folded and a weight of 217 g. What’s even more impressive, the device offers a massive battery, which is usually a huge problem with such slim designs.

Giant battery in an ultra-thin body

Undoubtedly, the biggest trump card of the new device is the first mass-produced silicon-carbon battery with a capacity of 6,100 mAh, which is available in the 1TB storage version (other configurations have 5,820 mAh, but even that is an absolutely fantastic value). This breakthrough battery has a record 25% silicon content and achieves the highest energy density of 901 Wh/L. Combined with the proprietary Honor E2 chip for increased energy utilization, the phone promises excellent battery life despite its slim dimensions.

Honor Magic V5 supports 66W wired and even 50W wireless charging, so users don’t have to worry about waiting long to replenish energy. Reverse wireless charging is also available for charging accessories.

Premium hardware in every respect

The new foldable phone offers an internal 7.95″ OLED display and an external 6.43″ panel, both featuring a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of up to 5,000 nits. Honor has also implemented 4320Hz PWM dimming technology to eliminate flickering and other eye protection features.

Performance is handled by the flagship processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite manufactured with 3nm technology, which ensures unparalleled performance and support for advanced AI features. The phone is offered in three memory configurations: 12/256GB, 16/512GB, and 16GB/1TB.

Advanced photo system for professional shots

The phone’s photo equipment includes a triple rear system with a 64Mpx periscope telephoto lens, a 50Mpx primary wide-angle camera, and a 50Mpx ultra-wide sensor. The company has implemented the Honor AI Falcon system, which uses artificial intelligence to enhance captured photos and videos.

The front sides of the phones are equipped with 20Mpx selfie cameras – one on the outer display and the other on the inner foldable panel. Both support video recording in 4K resolution.

Durable construction and intelligent features

The phone’s construction offers IP58 and IP59 certification for dust and water protection. Honor has opted for a carbon fiber reinforcement with a deformation resistance of 380 GPa and a steel hinge with a tensile strength of 2300 MPa, which is intended to ensure the long lifespan of the folding mechanism. The manufacturer also promises the absence of visible crease marks on the display.

The MagicOS 9.0.1 operating system based on Android 15 brings a range of AI features including the YOYO assistant, which helps with daily tasks such as creating presentations, coding, searching, or sharing files. The system also offers advanced multitasking capabilities that maximize the potential of the large foldable display.

Price and availability

The Honor Magic V5 is available in China starting today in four color variants – ivory white, black, gold, and reddish-brown. Prices start at 8,999 yuan (26,300 CZK without tax) for the 12/256 GB variant, 9,999 yuan (29,200 CZK) for the 16/512 GB version, and 10,999 yuan (32,100 CZK) for the top model with 16 GB RAM and 1 TB storage.

According to the official statement, the phone will be launched on international markets later this year, which means it is highly likely to also arrive in the Czech Republic. Here, we can expect a price around 40-45 thousand Czech crowns for the basic variant, which would correspond to the usual price increase for global versions.
