The company Google could soon fill a gap in its audio product portfolio. According to the latest information, it is preparing to introduce Pixel Buds 2a headphones, which would finally replace the outdated Pixel Buds A model from 2021. The new mid-range headphones should arrive alongside the flagship Pixel 10 phones, thus responding to long-standing criticism of the absence of modern headphones in a more affordable category.

Four attractive color variants

According to information shared on social media by leaker @MysteryLupin, the new Pixel Buds 2a will be available in four color options. Specifically, these should be the Hazel (moss green), Strawberry (strawberry red), Iris (purple), and Fog Light (light grey) variants.

Fixing the predecessor’s shortcomings

The current Pixel Buds A suffer from several significant shortcomings that prevent them from competing in today’s mid-range headphone market. They primarily lack active noise cancellation (ANC) and a transparent mode, which are now offered even by much cheaper models from competing brands. Another major weakness is the mere 5 hours of battery life on a single charge, while the competition easily manages double that.

Therefore, we expect the new Pixel Buds 2a to fix these shortcomings and bring modern features that will better compete with other manufacturers. In addition to the mentioned active noise cancellation and transparent mode, the headphones should also offer extended battery life, and a truly pleasant surprise would be wireless charging of the case, which is missing in the current model (although this is rather unlikely).

Possible integration with Gemini

An interesting new feature could be integration with Gemini artificial intelligence. Google has been massively expanding the availability of its AI assistant in the past year, and its implementation into headphones would make sense. Users could thus communicate directly with Gemini through the headphones, have conversations translated in real-time, or use other smart features without needing to take out their phone.

Filling a gap in the portfolio

Currently, Google only offers premium Pixel Buds Pro 2 headphones for 5 699 Kč and Pixel Buds A for 2 690 Kč. There is a huge gap between these models in both price and features. The new Pixel Buds 2a could thus be an ideal compromise for users who want modern features but are not willing to spend over six thousand crowns.

The expected price of the new headphones could range from 3 500 to 4 000 Kč, which would put them in direct competition with models like Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 Pro.

Expected announcement date

The Google Pixel 10 series is reportedly set to be unveiled on August 20, so we assume the new headphones will arrive on the same day. However, we will have to wait for specific details on price and availability – as well as confirmation of specifications.

What do you expect from Google Pixel Buds 2a?
